From 97,597 inhabitants in 2009 and with nearly 100,000 today, Noumea’s population should rise to 108,800 in 2015 and 130,600 in 2025 (projected average) if the trend continues.

Its growth depends on two elements: natural increase (excess of births over deaths) and migration.  Whilst the first is not likely to experience any changes to its normal trend, the second is more complex.  Availability and cost of accommodation, the lure of economic development, employment, etc.:  various factors can affect the influx of migration.
