The island’s economic heart

More than half of New Caledonia’s companies are based in Noumea. The economic activity, concentrated in the South, is even more so in the capital, where 68% of the South Province businesses and 56% of New Caledonia’s are found.

The headquarters of major New Caledonian companies are also based in Noumea. The Port of Noumea, the main centre of maritime trade in New Caledonia, handles 100% of the goods destined for New Caledonia’s consumers.

Noumea has seen significant demographic growth over the past few years, mainly because it exerts a strong attraction due to the economic activity it generates.
